CATBALOGAN, Samar – A sunny Imelda Park and colorful buntings with senatorial candidates' faces on them, welcomed Team Unity bets on Wednesday.

Three thousand Samareños braved the heat of the sun to see and listen to seven out of the twelve senatorial aspirants from Team Unity. Among those who came were, Vicente Sotto III, Miguel Zubiri, Michael Defensor, Vicente Magsaysay, Prospero Pichay, Cesar Montano, and Joker Arroyo.

Edgardo Angara and Teresa Aquino-Oreta were represented by wife and son respectively.

Local candidates from Kampi attended the campaign rally and sat with Team Unity bets. Samar Governor Mila Tan came with daughter, Ann Tan, who now seeks a seat in Congress. Catbalogan Mayor Coefredo Uy was also present with candidates for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Sangguniang Bayan.

Sotto, who is hopeful for a third term assured the Samareños that he will again serve in their best interest.

Despite fairing poorly in surveys, Zubiri was cheered loudly by the Samareños as the candidate clad in green boasted that like McArthur, he "returned". It was his second time this election period to visit Catbalogan and he promised that if he will be elected, "magiging kakampi 'ho ako ninyo sa senado".

Pichay, who came later, said that the Samareños would be better off with the administration line-up because aside from being the "better-looking" lot, the country is hounded with so many ills that peace and unity are indispensable.

While the crowd cheered on every candidate, Montano, who came last, stirred the crowd. Montano, who is a multi-awarded actor and director was introduced by Zubiri as the "pinakamagaling na artista sa Pilipinas".

All the other candidates took three minutes speaking about their programs of action except Joker Arroyo who only said his campaign slogan: "Kung bad ka, lagot ka!"

The Team Unity candidates stayed for less than an hour and went off to Calbayog City immediately.
