TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – OIC
Provincial Election Supervisor Arzadon is contemplating of transferring the
venue of the canvassing of votes in Catubig, Northern Samar, to the old
Provincial Capitol in Catarman tomorrow May 18.
This move is hoped to ease the
brewing tension between the supporters of the two mayoralty candidates Vicencio
of Lakas-CMD and her opponent Hipe of Kampi. The supporters from both camps are
vigilantly guarding the canvassing venue in Catubig.
Earlier this afternoon,
winning North Samar 2nd District congressional candidate Atty. Emil Ong of Kampi
called on the local media to go to Catubig town to cover a highly tensed
canvassing.
Allegedly, the growing tension
is caused by the fact that losing mayoralty candidate Vicencio of Lakas-CMD is
contesting seven election returns.
The canvassing of votes in
Catubig is now on recess in order to ease the mounting tension. Calls for
sobriety and calm among the supporters of both camps have been aired. The
supporters are asked to let the democratic process take its course for the
interest of the municipality.
Catubig is a 4th class
municipality in the second district of the province of Northern Samar. According
to the 2000 census, it has a population of 26,917 people in 5,015 households.
Catubig is politically subdivided into 47 barangays and is known as the rice
granary of Northern Samar.
