CATBALOGAN, Samar –
Infrastructures will be placed in the backseat as health services and livelihood
programs will be given priority in his second term in Congress if the Samarnons
will give him another mandate.

Congressman Figueroa |
Samar’s 2nd district
Congressman Catalino Figueroa, in an interview over DYMS-Aksyon Radyo after he
filed his Certificate of Candidacy at the COMELEC here Wednesday, said it is now
time to give focus on these issues to rescue the Samarnons from the mire of
poverty.
Figueroa, who is running under
the Lakas-CMD banner, indicated that he will have a unified platform with his
wife, Neliptha, who is running for governor under Lakas-CMD/Kampi against the
incumbent Gov. Milagrosa T. Tan.
The Congressman disclosed he
and his wife plans to rehabilitate the Samar Provincial Hospital and all the
district hospitals in the province and furnish them with facilities that are
needed to upgrade the health services that these hospitals will provide for the
people.
This, amidst criticisms that
the hospitals in the province were so neglected that their status were reduced
into mere clinics for lack of medicines and basic facilities.
He clarified though that
infrastructure projects will not be neglected but will be continued since these
are also important to trigger economic activity.
Congressman Figueroa assured
that the rehabilitation of the Calbiga-Catbalogan stretch of the Maharlika
Highway will continue and the completion of the provincial roads like the
Tulay-Poblacion, Sta. Rita Road, Casang-an-Villareal Road, Paranas-San Jose de
Buan Road and the other provincial roads in Samar will also be looked into.
Figueroa’s re-election bid
is, however, challenged by Governor Tan’s daughter Sharee Ann who is running for
the Congressional post of Samar’s 2nd district.
