TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – Team
Unity's senatorial bet Vicente “Tito” Sotto III recognized the need for more
tourism development and peace and order in the whole Eastern Visayas as part of
the tourism center of the country's Super and Mega regions.
The Eastern Visayas region is
one of the component of the Central Philippines Super region cluster which is
envisioned as the tourism center of the
Philippines.
The three-time former senator
declared during Team Unity's campaign trail in Samar island the region as a
whole possess a lot of potentials for tourism to flourish however it is of vital
importance first to establish a peaceful and orderly environment before any
tourist and investors alike can be convinced to come.
“I was only here for a short
time however I see that in terms of tourism, both Samar and Leyte island have a
lot to give to the tourism industry in the country,” Sotto said during an
interview with the local media.
According to Sotto, he filed a
lot of bills during his three term stint in the Senate that promotes tourism
growth and development in the country when then he chaired the Senate Committee
on Local Government and Tourism.
He particularly pushed for the
establishment of tourist zones in our country, considered vital to the
development of our tourism industry based on international standards.
Sotto added that when
installed back in the Senate through the May 14 polls, he would again push for
the development of countryside tourism but first emphasizing on peace and
stability to assure a stable tourism industry.
“Mahirap mag-convince ng mga
investors and tourists kung yung mga daanan mahirap pa rin, yung peace and order
hindi pa masyadong stable. Tutukan muna natin yun and that's what we will work
out on,” Sotto said.
A vibrant tourism in the area
would also redound to job creation and economic growth among the constituents of
the Eastern Visayas region, he added.
Meanwhile, it is known that
the senatorial aspirant is an advocate for a drug-free Philippines, for a more
efficient local government, for a modern information technology, and for a
well-represented citizenry in government. In his last term as senator which was
during the 12th Congress, he filed one hundred and twenty six Senate Bills and
two Senate Resolutions.
Sotto was among Team
Unity's senatorial bets who conducted a hectic, one day campaign sortie in
Catbalogan and Calbayog in Western Samar, Catarman in Northern Samar and
Borongan in Eastern Samar recently.
