CATBALOGAN, Samar –
Catbalogan COMELEC may add some 11.6% in the voters’ list, based on the pile of
voters’ application in the Election Office, COMELEC Officer Edgar de la Cruz
said Tuesday, January 26, 2006.
Dela Cruz said that the office
may add an additional 4,000 to 5,000 voters once all applications are processed
and settled. In the previous election in 2004, Catbalogan posted some 43,080
voters said Election Assistant Flordeliza Yu.
Yu added that some 355
precincts then were opened. With the additional voters, additional precincts are
also needed as one voting precinct usually contains some 200 voters.
Other than the load of adding
new voters in the list and paper works relative to voters’ list; the local
COMELEC office has not received any filer for local candidates yet as stated by
the COMELEC staff.
The same situation prevails in
the COMELEC provincial office where assistant Renato Gaditano said that no one
has filed yet. He added that filers usually flock on the last few days of the
allotted time like voter-registrants.
COMELEC Provincial Office
could not yet supply this reporter the addition of voters in the province as
some Municipal Election Officers have not yet submitted their additional list.
COMELEC has published that the
start of the filing of candidacy for local officials was on January 15, 2007 to
March 29, 2007.
When asked about the peace and
order situation in Samar’s capital town, Yu said that elections in Catbalogan have always been
orderly and that no occurrence of violence had been recorded in the 2004
elections.
De la Cruz told PIA that by
first week of February the exact number of additional voters would be known in
their office.
